Tres Osos Derby Open and Non Pro action, which began on Thursday, February 13 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, came to a close today in John Justin Arena with the crowning of champions across all divisions. In true reined cow horse fashion, it all came down to the fence work with elite 4- and 5-year-old reined cow horses gunning for a piece of the $295,011 awarded across all Derby divisions. 
Hott Rod (Hottish x Sugars Smart Kitty x High Brow Cat) and Corey Cushing scorched the competition with 668 (225 herd/ 226 rein/ 217 cow) to earn $27,874 for owner Lynne Wurzer. Cushing needed to be no less than a 215.5 in the cow work to tie with eventual reserve champion Kreyzy Horse (Dual Rey x Shes Twice As Smooth x Smooth As A Cat). Kreyzy Horse was ridden by Kelby Phillips for DT Horses, LLC, to a 666.5 (220 herd/ 227 rein/ 219.5) worth $20,539.
The Derby Open champion was awarded a Jeff Smith’s custom saddle courtesy of Tres Osos Ranch, a Gist custom buckle courtesy of Branding Iron Boutique, Platinum Performance product, a monogrammed jacket from the Tres Osos Ranch, and UltraCruz prize pack from San Juan Ranch and Santa Cruz Animal Health.

Duallicious (Dual Spark x Unos Charm x Smart Little Uno) owned by Becky Smith and ridden by Robert Smith III scored a 651.5 (207 herd/ 220 rein/ 224.5 cow) worth $8,517 to top the Derby Intermediate Open. The win came with a Gist custom buckle courtesy of Branding Iron Boutique, Platinum Performance product, and a monogrammed jacket from the Tres Osos Ranch.

With a silky smooth 222.5 in the cow work, it was Reyny Day Nickle (Shiners Nickle x Tootsie Rey x Dual Rey) and Daniel Sanchez who took the Derby Limited Open championship for owner Donna Russo. Reyny Day Nickle and Sanchez put up a cumulative 650 (216 herd/ 211.5 rein) worth $3,362. The win came with a beautiful Gist custom buckle courtesy of Branding Iron Boutique, Platinum Performance product, and a monogrammed jacket from the Tres Osos Ranch.

Earning the Derby Level 1 Limited Open title was Half Past Boon (Half Time Report x Boonalicious x Peptoboonsmal) with a 641.5 (210 herd/ 219.5 rein/ 212 cow) to bank $3,924. Half Past Boon is owned by Rocking J Ranch, Inc., and ridden by Jesus Roman. The win came with a Gist custom buckle courtesy of Branding Iron Boutique, Platinum Performance product, a monogrammed jacket from the Tres Osos Ranch, and UltraCruz prize pack from San Juan Ranch and Santa Cruz Animal Health.

Holding down the top spot in the Derby Open Novice Horse composite was SJR Diamond In Style (CD Diamond x Stylish Little Oak x Playin Stylish) ridden by Jake Gorrell for San Juan Ranch to a cumulative 656 (217 herd/ 218.5 rein/ 220.5 cow) worth $3,636. Gorrell and SJR Diamond In Style also won Platinum Performance product and a monogrammed jacket from the Tres Osos Ranch.

Topping the Derby Non Pro division to earn $4,924 was Myles Brown riding Rob A. Brown’s Twice In A Blu Moon (Once In A Blu Boon x Teletrona x Little Trona). Brown scored a cumulative 658 (217 herd/ 214.5 rein/ 226.5 cow) to also earn a Gist custom buckle courtesy of Hes Wright On and Fults Ranch, Platinum Performance product, a monogrammed jacket from the Tres Osos Ranch, and UltraCruz prize pack from San Juan Ranch and Santa Cruz Animal Health.

Dillon Cox and TimeForLightening (One Time Pepto x SDP Gretchens Kitty x Hydrive Cat) won both the Intermediate and Novice Non Pro Derbies thanks to a 642 composite (209 herd/ 213 rein/ 220 cow). Cox earned $2,368 in the Intermediate and another $1,061 in the Novice, plus two prize packages including Gist custom buckles courtesy of RT Bit and Spur, Platinum Performance product and monogrammed jackets from the Tres Osos Ranch.

Sibling rivalry was on display with Dillon’s brother Dakota riding Meradas Cash Bar (Ktz Rey Of Cash x Meradas Bar Star x Meradas Money Talks) to reserve honors in the Derby Intermediate and Novice Non Pro divisions. Dakota earned the Derby Amateur composite and $1,863 thanks to his 637 (205 herd/ 212.5 rein/ 219.5 cow). Dakota was awarded a Gist custom buckle courtesy of RT Bit and Spur, Platinum Performance, monogrammed jacket from the Tres Osos Ranch, and UltraCruz prize pack from San Juan Ranch and Santa Cruz Animal Health.

Crowning of Limited Open Hackamore and Non Pro Two Rein world champions took place today in John Justin Arena. Earning the Limited Open Hackamore world championship was Half Past Boon (Half Time Report x Boonalicious x Peptoboonsmal) ridden by Jesus Roman for Rocking J Ranch. Forty eight Non Pro Limited Celebration of Champions qualifiers took their turn today in Will Rogers Coliseum with the top 12 scores (including ties) qualifying for tomorrow’s final round in John Justin Arena where the world championship will be determined. The cutoff to make the finals was a 285.5.
